The things that make you go hmmmm...

I think this song is appropriate for this discussion… Like I said in earlier blog post, for the most part I like Kevin Gorg and his hockey analysis, I also like listening to Gorg and P.A. on KFAN 1130 during my workouts at the gym or while riding my bike, weather permitting of course, I down load the broadcasts on my ipod so I can listen to Ryan Cardinal and Gorg, I am surprised that Gorg said this… You can listen to it on this link… [Click to Listen]
One note . Heard a respected hockey person (Kevin Gorg) say on radio (KFAN 1130) he hoped the NCAA would give the Gophers special consideration this year for an at-large bid because the Frozen Four is at the Xcel Center.

That won't happen. There is no subjectivity in the selection process of at-large teams. None. Zero. Nada. Schools hosting the Frozen Four get no special consideration.

Complain if you want, that's just the way it is.
I guess I am shocked because I would think a great hockey like Gorg would know that the NCAA tourney isn’t selected in some smoke filled room anymore, the selection goes straight by the numbers of the RPI/PWR rankings. If Minnesota isn’t in the top 15 schools they will not make the NCAA Hockey tourney.

Speaking of Ryan Cardinal; Here is the audio from Cardinal's weekly bit on KFAN 1130 on Wednesday. [Click to listen]

So I wonder who Roman is talking about?
Gophers coach Don Lucia said Monday on his weekly WCCO radio show that his staff didn't expect to be playing Alaska Anchorage this weekend.
"We actually had done our video work for St. Cloud [State]," he said, "because the way things were looking, that's who we thought we would end up playing."
(One silly blogger even predicted it would be St. Cloud State at Minnesota. Won't name names.)
So if silly blogger said that the Gophers would be playing the SCSU Huskies and the coaching staff thought they were going to be playing the Huskies and were even reviewing tape of the SCSU Huskies does that make the blogger in question silly?

Boston Bruins practice at Havard...

I thought this was funny when I read it and I tried to put it up last night but blogger was down...
Russo's Rants --- The Wild attended Hahvahd for an afternoon practice at Bright Hockey Center, home of Alexander Fallstrom, the Swedish-born, former Shattuck-St Mary's forward drafted by the Wild and eventually traded to the Bruins for Chuck Kobasew.

Kobasew, who played one year at Boston College, where he won the Beanpot and some other somewhat major tournament by beating North Dakota, will play in Boston on Thursday for the first time since being traded to Minnesota in October 2009.

It's still possible

I was playing around with the numbers and realistically speaking the Fighting Sioux "COULD" finish in first still. I don't know the Sioux are 4-2-2 during the second half. Try the "what-if" calculator. Go ahead and post your finds if you like. I don't know if I would like to see UND play the Seawolves.

WCHA Final
UMD 28 36
UND 28 36
Denver 28 36
UW 28 35
SCSU 28 35
CC 28 29
UMN 28 26
AA 28 21
Mankato 28 21
MTech 28 5

What is this?

Look what my wife had my Daughter dressed up in; a purple cows outfit.
Abby got that shirt from one of our friends who went to MSU-M UND game last winter.
I am going to have to get my house in order. :)

White out at the Ralph.

Don't forget to get your t shirt for this upcoming series. They are roughly $13.00 with tax at the REA Sioux shop. I was just there and they lots of t-shirts left. I know there are some that don't want to buy anything with the Gophers logo on it, well then wear a white shirt of some kind. One solution I do have is you can take a sharpie marker and cross the big maroon M out.

Reffing Assignments

Mark my words: for reffing assignments we will get one or more of the following officials: Shepherd, Hunt Todd Anderson and or Donn Adam. I am personally think it
will be the combination of Marco Hunt and Derrick Shepherd. Look for Greg Shepherd to be at one or both games as well this weekend. I wounder if we will run into Greg and his officating crew in the bars this weekend?

You have got to be kidding me?

I have been astonished at some of the comments that fans write on Brad Elliott Schlossman's blog here is the latest gem.

wonder if eids will get another courtesy start from hak tonight......

I know everyone thinks hes better than walski but the reason he is playing is because he is drafted and hak is stroking the NHL guys....look at finley how many mistakes did he make his first two years because he is drafted

Oh Eids quit looking at the shoot clock every time you make a save.....if your that worried about your stats...maybe you shouldn't be the starter.........or you know the guy dressing behind you is better than you??????

I wounder where they find these classless skippy's? It is easy to sit behind a anonymous name and say vile and hateful things about people when you don't have to pay for your comments. If you were to walk into a bar and say some of the things people do on message board you would be liable to get punched. Some people are just never happy unless they are constantly bitching and breaking people down. I still want to see a few of the guys tell Finley to his face that he sucks. Heck I will drive them to the arena to see big Joe Finley teach them some manners.

You have to wounder if this guys is another member of the Walski was robbed fan club? I don't know or maybe he is one of Walski's buddies. Here is some perspective: the Fighting Sioux won the game and they also won the series folks, yet people want to pick our starting goaltender and defense apart. Of the three goals scored two of them were grade "A" shots. The one goal was Brad Eidsness fault because he failed to cover his pipe, even Nikolas Bakstrom does that some times. As Brad points out Eidsness is 11-7-1 with a 2.68 GAA and .907 sv%, while Walski is 0-3 with 3.99 and .796. I am not sure why there should be any confusion. It is obvious that this guy didn't do well in his math classes.

The latest Patrick Reusse article.

Seems that Patrick Reusse is enflaming the masses down in Minneapolis again because he isn't spitting out the company line again. You know; Don Lucia is great, Don Lucia is God, Don Lucia is the top coach in the WCHA.

Seriously! Everyone knows that Mike Guentzel quit on his own accord and wasn't pushed out; there is no way a class act such as Don Lucia would force a great coach like Mike Guentzel out. Why couldn’t it happen?

The funny thing is every once in a while when there isn't much as far as real news going on in the Twin Cities Partick Reusse will put a shot across the bow of the Gopher hockey team. I don’t blame him it sells newspapers and people respond to it. Like obedient sheep the Gopher faithful take offense to it. I think people forgot to mention that it was an opinion piece. What is more funny is the comments that follow Reusse's articles.

Mainstream media. That's what they call us, right?

Apparently, the plan here in the mainstream has been to accept the tall tale that Mike Guentzel willingly resigned after 14 seasons as a Gophers hockey assistant, even though it's an open topic of conversation in WCHA circles and among former Gophers that he was forced out by coach Don Lucia.

Guentzel can't confirm this to media members, of course. The 45-year-old has aspirations to run a Division I program, and publicly admitting that Lucia chose him as the scapegoat for the horrendous 2007-08 season would not be helpful in that pursuit.

There's no doubt that the Lucia ego is sufficiently large that he's not going to blame a seventh-place finish in the WCHA on his own stewardship. And since The Don is joined at the hip with John Hill, his other assistant, that left Guentzel to take the fall. (Read the whole story here)

This is one of my favorite comments on the article.
Such short memories
Somehow the Don's critics have forgotten how he recruited a guy with below average skating skills named Grant Potulny. He certainly was not a prima-donna but the Don saw his leadership skills and character and Grant became the best captain the Gophers had in many years and led them to 2 NCAA championships. I agree with the Don that it's easy to be a good coach with good players - check the record at CC. However, to make the personable and hard working Guentzel a scapegoat (if that is indeed the case!) is not a class act.

Sioux vs Gophers Week.

It's been way to tame around here it's time to take it up a notch. GPL and Sioux Sports have been like retirement communties, boring. Come on folks the Sioux are playing the brown and yellow vermin this weekend and there just isn't any energy in this series as of yet So lets dust off the attitudes.

This weeks picks: Misc Ramblings/Rants

Last week one could say that I had trouble with my picks, in fact I had a reverse crystal ball. If I picked your team to win you lost and vice versa. The only pick I was right on was the Sioux and UAA, not that was all that difficult of a pick, the Seawolves had only won two games in WCHA action.

I am not sure if my picking the SCSU to beat the MSU-M Mavericks jinxed the SCSU Huskies or not. I just want to let Heather from WinTwins blog know that it wasn't done on purpose, or with malice. I am sure that she is also in mourning today as the Minnesota Twinkies traded away all-star pitcher Johan Santana. Another botched pick was MTU and C.C.; honestly, I didn't see MTU beating beating the C.C. Tigers but hey I am not going to complain either. Big win for the Huskies, I am thinking they might come back to the pack a little in the second half. Fast forward to this weekend; I also don't see the Huskies losing to the UAA Seawolves, Why? I have a beer riding on that game with Sioux7. Logic tells me that UND should beat the Gophers but I won't be shocked with a couple of sister kissing or a split.

Michigan Tech at Alaska-Anchorage - MTU
